Taking Over The Reins

I first decided that I wanted to work in public relations after reading about it in the Radio One Careers Guide when I was 16. But to be honest I don’t think I ever imagined (all those years ago..) that I would one day own my own marketing agency!

I’m therefore proud (and actually still a little bit surprised!) to have now taken over CIB with Gavin Tadman.

Steve Jobs once said: “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” Well, it’s fair to say that I truly love marketing within the construction industry and if I didn’t believe that CIB was the best, then I would be feeling rather apprehensive right now.

I started working for CIB in 2005 and looking back there are many highlights for me, so far.

My first ever client at CIB, Fernox is one of the most prolific product innovators I’ve known – a delight to work with from a PR perspective – and CIB thoroughly enjoyed working on the company’s 50 year anniversary last year.

GE Lighting has also been a client for many years. Together we were the first to truly utilise video at a major exhibition and the company’s huge strategic shift has been an exciting challenge that is continually evolving.

Knauf Insulation’s (and John Sinfield’s!) bold stance on the Green Deal and energy efficiency policy is any marketers dream; and it’s been great for us to feel like a true extension of the Knauf Insulation team, as we work closely together to make their voice heard.

As the marcomms landscape has rapidly evolved, so have we - and our award-winning initiatives for both Graham The Plumbers’ Merchant and Carillion are probably two of the projects I’m most proud of.

The re-branding project for ABEC sticks out as one of the best ROI’s we have ever achieved and it’s been great to see a resurgence in more traditional DM really reap rewards for both Ecophon and Kee Safety Group.

Our recent video for Forbo with Wayne Hemingway has also been a highlight, a chance for CIB to work with someone who I think is such an inspiration. Our video work for Prater also inspires – but this time, the buildings do the talking.

Of course, these are just the tip of the iceberg. We are constantly challenged by our clients and I am frequently wowed by the creativity and professionalism of my team.

Consequently, it has been a pleasure to work at CIB for the last 10 years – and it will now be a pleasure to lead it. I’m a little scared about taking over the reigns from Andy Cassie and John Woodberry – but I know that myself and Gavin Tadman have some exciting times ahead!
