PR Account Executive / Senior Account Executive, depending on experience

We’re looking for PR account executive, based at our Leatherhead office. If you have a genuine love of writing, can think on your feet, juggle a demanding workload and communicate effectively at all levels then we’re looking for you. Some B2B PR experience would be ideal, construction experience a true bonus!

The role will predominantly involve technical writing, client and media liaison, social media management, account administration and some event organisation.

Summary of Job

  • To play a supporting role in the PR account team. Primarily, this involves writing and researching press releases, case studies and features and producing content for social media feeds, as well as day to day account administration.

Reporting line

  • Reporting directly to an Account Manager (or Account Director)

Main responsibilities

  • Maintenance of records of all press coverage
  • Preparation of campaign evaluation and reporting material for client meetings
  • Attending client meetings and preparing contact report / minutes and other client materials
  • The research, writing and distribution of press releases and case studies (involves speaking to the customers of our clients with a firm understanding of each manufacturer’s route to market)
  • Managing clients Twitter and Facebook accounts
  • Developing filming briefs and interview points and conduct interviews on film
  • Briefing journalists, attending journalist meetings and/or presentations
  • Selling in and writing feature articles
  • Sourcing photographic quotes and preparation of photographic briefs
  • Attending trade exhibitions
  • Event organising
  • Participation in new business presentations
  • Providing research to inform pitches and ongoing client work
  • Attending journalist and client events outside of office hours for relationship building / networking

Key Competencies

Commercial insight

Should have an understanding of each client’s business activities, key issues and competitive advantage and be able to identify opportunities to promote the client and their activities based on these platforms.

Strategic Thinking

Should be able to understand how their individual input contributes to the client’s overall marketing strategy.

Creative Thinking

Should participate in brainstorming sessions and actively explore different avenues for a client based on a particular brief. Should be able to identify relevant content for social media feeds.

Time Management

Can multi-task and work to set deadlines. Manage own workload.

Copywriting

Demonstrate a true understanding of the client’s brief by effectively communicating the key message in simple, concise copy that is relevant to the reader. It is expected that the client will make some changes to the copy, however these shouldn’t be grammatical or spelling corrections and they should not need to make the same changes on more than one occasion.

Presentation Skills

Should be articulate and be able to present ideas and proposals to clients, when required. Should be able to communicate with contacts at all levels.

Trouble Shooting

Client should feel confident that any problem is being given due attention and that immediate action is being taken to ensure that the right person (if it cannot be handled by the AE) is fully informed of the situation. The account executive should demonstrate initiative, not necessarily in solving the problem themselves, but in ensuring it is tackled by an appropriate person as soon as is possible.

How do I progress to the next level?

To be promoted to a senior account executive you will be expected to be able to:

  • Manage your own workload, setting and meeting your own deadlines in line with client expectations.
  • Be able to develop your own feature synopses, sell in and write features.
  • Take responsibility for all the output of at least one client.
  • Be confident behind the camera, developing questions and interviewing subjects.
  • Show initiative in identifying opportunities for additional activity such as video, infographics, site visits, extended case studies and interviews.
  • Demonstrate creative thinking in developing content for clients’ social media feeds.
