Inspiring the next generation

On 1st July, we launched Purdy’s Mentor of the Year competition, which aims to recognise those who are inspiring the next generation of professional painters and decorators.

Our client recognises that workmanship and quality tools work hand in hand to deliver the best results and this campaign was created to champion those that are teaching - and inspiring – the next generation. It is also giving those nominating - apprentices and those learning the trade - to thank the people that are having a positive influence on them and their learning.

This new campaign is a great example of our full spectrum of services being used including PR, social, creative and advertising.

A press release launching the campaign was initially sent to the key trade painting and decorator press. Alongside this, regular content has been included on Purdy’s social channels including social media adverts in order to reach a wider number of people within their target audience.

On the creative side, we designed the Purdy Mentor of the Year logo alongside the design for the full-page ads which were booked into Decorating Matters, The Decorator and PP&D.

We also recognised that working closely with painting and decorating colleges would be key in reaching the campaigns target audience; as such we provided a pack of useful assets for the colleges to use including a leaflet, social media assets and the press release. The leaflet was also provided to the Painting and Decorating Association.

Nominations have been open to anyone that is instilling their passion and skills into the person or people that they are training - whether they run their own business, manage or train decorators in a larger firm or lecture at a decorating college.

The competition comes to an end on 30th September 2021 and the entries will then be judged by Phil Warwick of CITB, Neil Ogilvie of the PDA and Andy Cummings of Sherwin-Williams.

The winner of the competition, which will be announced at the Painting and Decorating Show in November, will receive £2,000 and the person who nominates them will win a new Purdy backpack filled with Purdy products. The two runners up will receive £500 each, with a range of Purdy products for their nominators.

**Update – congratulations to our winner, John Stevenson of Leeds College of Building. For full details, see here.
